Occupational therapy is a health profession whose goal is to help people achieve independence, meaning and satisfaction in all aspects of their lives.
Occupational Therapists can work in a variety of settings including; Hospitals, Schools, Local Authority Councils, Charities, Social Enterprises and Private Businesses. Occupational Therapists can also work privately, in Independent Practice.
Occupational therapists need a degree or postgraduate qualification in Occupational Therapy approved by the Health Professions Council (HPC) and accredited by the British Association / College of Occupational Therapists (BAOT/COT). Further information can be found at their websites:
What can our OT's do for you?
We work with people of all ages; birth to end of life care.
We work with private clients including those wanting to self-fund their assessment, schools, Residential and Nursing Homes, Case Managers and Solicitors.
Our Occupational Therapists can provide home, school, work based or clinic (Durham) assessments, goal orientated intervention programmes, equipment sourcing and provision, adaptation recommendations and comprehensive reports.
Our team are experienced in the assessment and provision of assistive devices such as hand rails, perching stools, portable ramping, toilet surround frames and raised toilet seats. Our Associates are also able to asses for specialist seating, wheelchairs, hoists, slings and bathing equipment. Assessments are often undertaken for adaptations including stair lifts, ramps, through floor lifts, ground floor extensions, level access showers and ceiling track hoists. We may be able to support you to access a Personal Budget / Direct Payment from your local authority (Social Services) in order to fund the provision that our OT's recommend.
The team can also provide assessments and recommendations in relation to moving and handling and Falls Prevention. We regularly work closely with local and national businesses to provide advice, equipment and adaptations to promote safer mobility, transfers and moving and handling.
As we have Physiotherapist Associates we are able to offer close multidisciplinary working if required supporting continuity of care from Heel and Toe.
